Lela, a funeral home owner, struggles to uncover the truth behind her mother's mysterious death while haunted by ghosts and weighed down by the weight of untold secrets. Lela works with Siti's mother as a body wash before the funeral. Lela is not happy that she is continuing the family profession while her brother took another job. When Siti's boyfriend dies mysteriously, she is disturbed. Then comes Siti's death, which makes Lela realize that these mysterious deaths were actually murders. When he decides to investigate, another woman dies, all in his mother's circle of friends. With the families refusing to intervene from the police, Lela sets out to gather evidence to prove that the deaths were murders and put an end to it. Whether he can save the village is the rest of the story. The film's main strength lies in its use of female characters, and a key moment in the film is the rumor they spread, which immediately boosts the story. Apart from the supernatural theme, the narrative is down to earth with occasional jump scares and the exclusion of the police seemed deliberate. The performances were pretty good and I wish there were more women like that. The flashback is only brief and we never fully learn Nur's story. This would probably make the movie more generic with its plot of good vs. evil, but at least it would answer the central question instead of leaving it unanswered. Corpse Wash is a decent film, helped by a good performance by the lead actress.
